COLOUR: Old tile-rose.
NOSE: Notes of red and exotic fruit — strawberry, lychee — followed by fig, walnut and vanilla oak. With a gentle oxidative edge, you will detect aromas of aged cognac.
PALATE: Soft and gently syrupy, this Pineau evolves toward rose and Turkish-delight notes with a vibrant, tangy freshness. Aromas of aged cognac, coffee and walnut then come to the fore.
FINISH: Charentais rancio, with a magnificent exotic palette reminiscent of great Sauternes or aged Ports.
AGE STATEMENT : 27 YEARS
AOC : Pineau des Charentes Rosé
GRAPE VARIETY : Merlot
AGEING : French oak casks from the Limousin region.
PRODUCTION : The result of blending freshly harvested grape must with young cognac (mutage). The blend is then transferred to oak casks (former cognac casks) for careful ageing. This Pineau was cask-laid in 1996 and bottled in July 2024.
This Pineau is best enjoyed well chilled — as an aperitif or with food. It stands in beautifully — and without apology — for a great Sauternes or a vintage Port.
A delightful companion to foie gras, a chocolate dessert or a blue cheese. It also makes a perfect pairing with a fine cigar.
